Atenea Concepc. ISSN The narration of the flood is one of the founding myths that grounds a community in its territory. Tales of floods participate in a relevant manner in the conformation of a special way of being. Nevertheless, this identity that is developed around the axis of a foundational myth excludes other different cultural realities as participants en its constitution. Alejo Carpentier takes advantage of this fact to construct his story "Los advertidos" as a burlesque travesty narrated from the perspective of Amaliwak, the hero of the Amazonic flood.

Alejo Carpentier. Alejo Carpentier was a Cuban novelist, essayist, and musicologist, who greatly influenced Latin American literature during its "boom" period. Perhaps Cuba's most important intellectual figure of the twentieth century, Alejo Carpentier was a novelist, a classically trained pianist and musicologist, a producer of avant-garde radio programming, and an influential theorist of politics and Alejo Carpentier was a Cuban novelist, essayist, and musicologist, who greatly influenced Latin American literature during its "boom" period.
Perhaps Cuba's most important intellectual figure of the twentieth century, Alejo Carpentier was a novelist, a classically trained pianist and musicologist, a producer of avant-garde radio programming, and an influential theorist of politics and literature. Although born in Switzerland, he grew up in Havana, Cuba, and was strongly self-identified as Cuban throughout his life.
He was jailed and exiled and he lived for many years in France and Venezuela but returned to Cuba after the revolution.
