Verified Purchase. I attended a Catholic college in the early 's, and every week we had a class in liturgical music using a Kyriale. Once a month, we had a very formal mass in the fine arts auditorium - in full academic dress no less - where we put into practice the skills we had learned from that Kyriale. As a person who remained active in the fields of liturgy and liturgical music, I was often sorry that I no longer had that book and wondered if I could still read the medieval musical notation and remember the ancient modes upon which the Gregorian Chants, in use at the time, were based.

Not long ago, it occurred to me that one can purchase just about anything from Amazon. Sure enough, there it was. I am thrilled to have it. I cannot remember all of the modes, but I do remember how to read the punctums and neums. What fun! I'd like to see the Table of Contents of this book. It would be nice to see if it has a few Eucharistic, Marian, Benediction, seasonal and devotional hymns, too. And maybe the English translation of the Latin texts [of the hymns, not necessarily the Ordinary.

I am wondering if the Requiem Mass is contained in this book. Most specifically I am looking for the In Paradisum which we sang at so many funerals during Go to Amazon. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands.

Sources of Kyriale Romanum

The Kyriale is a collection of Gregorian chant settings for the Ordinary of the Mass. This collection is included in liturgical books such as the Graduale Romanum and Liber Usualis , and it is also published as a separate book by the monks of Solesmes Abbey. In the Kyriale, the individual chants of the Ordinary are grouped into complete sets, whose title usually indicates the opening of the prosula formerly sung to each respective Kyrie melody. These masses are followed by individual items not grouped with the complete masses. A shorter Kyriale is included in the second edition of the Graduale Simplex. The following list of Masses indicates the seasons or feasts for which each Mass is intended.
