A year after earthquakes have devastated the Tennessee Valley, survivors are resisting demands by the federal government to relocate to FEMA refugee centers. United States National Guard units have proven ineffective at forcing these survivors out of the earthquake-damaged regions, due to their reluctance to employ deadly force against fellow Americans.
The story begins on opening day of the NFL season, when bullets begin to rain down upon the upper deck of a packed football stadium. A panic stampede ensues, leading to mass casualties. The alleged sniper is found holding a smoking assault rifle, and is killed by a police marksman.
One week later, Congress bans the private possession of all semi-automatic assault rifles. Gun owners are given one week to turn in their semi-automatic rifles, or face a five year mandatory sentence.
While still in his twenties, Dan inherited the schooner Rebel Yell. Soon after, he left the United States to embark on a series of voyages, mostly in pursuit of beautiful women and good times. While he was away from America, new federal taxes were imposed on luxury property, including privately owned yachts. Dan cannot pay these or other new taxes, so he can't return to the States without risking confiscation of his schooner.
Instead he must always fly under official radar and earn a living by his wits while staying one step ahead of the IRS and other government agencies. The Second Seal is opened and an impending terrorist attack threatens to kill off a large swath of the global population. Josh and Emilio have captured one of the terrorists. Meanwhile, back at the compound, Stephanie, Micah, and the others prepare to shelter in place in case the worst happens.
Lucius Alexander knows better than to let a good crisis go to waste. Jason Sterling had a simple life by all accounts. He had worked the same job his entire adult life, he had never married and he had no children.
He was used to doing things on his own. His comfortable life was shaken to the core the day he learned of his fathers death. It was a mysterious meeting that set life altering events in motion and the allure of a new life was too great to walk away from. When an Electromagnetic Pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.
When newcomers arrive in Conor Maguire's territory, they bring word of an enemy approaching from the north. They wear military uniforms, carry military weapons, and drive military trucks. Like a plaque of locusts, they sweep through every town in their path and pick it clean. In their wake, they leave ashes and atrocity. When it appears this enemy is on a collision course with their community, Conor must build an army to intercept them.
This is no easy task since his daughter's abrasive manner has divided the community. Their hasty alliance will be tested. The first skirmishes are already being fought. The crisis America faces is between two incompatible visions of the future, and a nation sharply divided between them. Will we become this diverse beacon of tolerance where we forget our past and embrace socialism and political correctness? Or, will we stand for our traditional beliefs, values, liberty, and sovereign government as free citizens our Founders did?

America faces a full-scale socioeconomic collapse in the near future. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation cripples commerce and the mounting crisis passes the tipping point.
Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city.
When agent Joshua Stone is called to a high-level meeting at the Department of Homeland Security, he learns about a new global order which will be transitioning into power.
Stone is read in on the plan for a single planetary government and a worldwide cashless currency, which will step in to fill the void left by the failing monetary system.
Having lost both a hand and his entire team when Jim Powell and his friends attacked the power plant, Boss is obsessed with revenge. Undeterred, Boss arrives at a covert method of engaging the entire population of southwest Virginia in his hunt for the insurgents.
Unlike many of the people in their compound, Shane, Julianna, and Cole are still alive. However, their trial by fire is far from over. The replacement currency has failed and America is crumbling from within. Roving gangs scour the country, preying on small towns which are too weak and unprepared to fend off their carnivorous attacks. When one such band of ruffians show up in Sylva, NC, Shane and Julianna will have to strike a decisive blow before they are subjugated into slavery.
A spark has found a bed of tinder. The inferno of chaos may never stop burning. In the jungles of Uganda, Ebola has mutated into an airborne strain. Now, all it takes is a little nudge, and the virus explodes across the planet. Panic, disbelief, and disinformation leave people unprepared to react. They hoard. They flee.
They turn to violence. Austin Cooper is stranded in Africa, at the epicenter of the outbreak. His sister, an NSA analyst, is pulling strings to locate him, while trying to understand what is going on. In Colorado, Austin's parents are fighting to stay alive as millions are infected. And then billions. A mutating plague is spreading. It's killing two of every three people on Earth. And Mike Crenshaw is totally unprepared.
From the world of The Traveler Series comes a new cast of characters, new obstacles, and the same devastating, world-altering virus which plunges society into the depth of a dystopian hell. As if ripped from today's headlines, governments react too slowly and the disease spreads too fast. Quarantines don't work. Infrastructure fails. People die. Without a functioning monetary system to purchase basic goods, society rapidly descends into abject chaos.
Protests, looting, and bloodletting take the place of civility in a country which becomes thoroughly unhinged. After over 20 years in the USMC and coming off a five-year tour as a contractor in Afghanistan, all Talon Clark wanted to do was spend time with his kids and wife on his ranch in Texas.
Occasionally, taking a short-term contract job to pay the bills, Talon is marooned in Washington, DC, when the nation is attacked by a series of false flag operations against our infrastructure and is then devastated by a series of EMP attacks. A drug cartel pours into a gap left by twin terror attacks, amassing invincible weapons in a push to dominate Southwest America. But no matter how powerful his tanks and machine guns, no weapon can force trust with the people closest to him.
Nor can military force alone exterminate the relentless spirit of America, which is anything but dead. His presence at a friend's compound in North Georgia put him on the radar of a corrupt congressman whose only bug-out plan is to take the property of someone better prepared than himself.
He decides to track down the writer from Virginia, a man whose own home should be well-stocked to survive the apocalypse he describes in his books. Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista is a novel set in the not-too-distant future in the American Southwest, during a period of low-intensity civil war. The action takes place between Texas and California, but the story is mainly centered around New Mexico.
I fully enjoyed the story and the characters. This is a author who'll be having more audio books produced soon I would think. The narrator was perfect somehow I see all this with a strong southern accent for characters at least most. I look forward to more. Hopefully soon. There's a 3rd book in this series I have it on kindle but would prefer audio. Unlike a lot of Patriot Fiction this is very well written with a good plot and character development Looking forward to the next one.
I enjoyed reading this trilogy previously as e-books. Because a special sale price was offered, I purchased the audio books.
Again, the story was good, but the narration, which is heavily accented with a southern drawl which I don't mind is almost monotone to the point that it is sometimes hard to decipher which character is speaking.
Add to that the change in pronunciation of characters' last names, extremely noticeable changes in recording sessions EQ, pitch, volume, hiss, distance between the narrator and microphone, room echo, etc. With a lot of re-editing it might be a bit better, but it won't be worth it. As it is, save your money and buy the electronic or physical books. Mr Brackens books should be made into movies. The narrators voice is perfect for telling this story. Don't listen to other reviews regarding the narration.
I've read all his books and I am working on listening to them all on audible. I wish there were more in the EFD story.

Domestic Enemies begins five years after Enemies Foreign And Domestic, in other words, in America's not very distant future. After decades of uncontrolled illegal immigration, tens of millions of undocumented Hispanic aliens have received amnesty, and both political parties are pandering to the desires of these new Spanish-speaking instant-citizens. Congress and the President have granted amnesty to a human tsunami of illegal migrants, but to most middle-class Americans, they remain unwanted criminal invaders. The national economy is on the brink of collapse, inflation and unemployment are soaring, and major cities are descending into ungovernable sinkholes of anarchy and inter-ethnic violence. America is poised for a low intensity "dirty civil war. After many years of an open-door policy to illegals and lax "motor-voter" registration, the state government has been taken over by separatists, who are only nominally members of the Democratic Party. The federal government, which is dealing with multiple crises it considers far more urgent, turns a blind eye to the ethnic and political turmoil in the remote border state of New Mexico.
The action takes place between Texas and California, but the story is mainly centered around New Mexico. He is married, has two children and lives in Florida. Matthew Bracken's latest novel is a brave book. It's brave because it's a sequel, and expectations from a readership that embraced his first book, Enemies Foreign And Domestic, are high. It's brave because he believes in the grand purpose of the right to bear arms, and that runs against the mindset of mainstream publishers. And it's brave because Bracken makes a harsh prediction of where this country is headed should the unchecked flow of illegal immigration not be halted and reversed.
