Login via Institution. We conducted a descriptive qualitative research based on dialectical hermeneutics and characterized as a bibliographic and document review. In the phase of data treatment and assessment, we used the categorical content analysis as its theme. In documents and interviews, we identified the IIP as a legacy of the London Olympic Games since it proposed the use of the power of sports to transform the lives of children and young people in schools and communities around the world and discussed issues such as leadership, citizenship and social responsibility.

In the speech of Brazilian participants, we observed that they see and use sports mainly as an educational tool to promote social, educational and cultural reflections, rather than mere leisure. Going beyond training and Physical Education classes has contributed to the organization of workshops, festivals, competitions and oriented breaks.

In addition, we found out that new modalities, such as badminton, cricket, netball and rugby, had been included in the programme.

We also identified a lack of structural and material resources to make this action feasible in Pernambuco. We concluded that the pedagogical proposals of this programme have enabled teachers to reflect on their lessons and sports in their schools and treat students as the subject of their proceedings and actions by making young leaders exert leadership.
